Our dreams and ambitions were disrupted by the huge pandemic that hit the whole world. We had to pause and consider how to deal with an entirely new and puzzling situation. We had two options: To surrender and let everything go by, and this is called passivity, or to reorganize ourselves and adapt to the new situation and so be positive and productive.
It was indeed difficult because education, business, lifestyle, etc. had to change and take their course in a different way. In the beginning, passivity prevailed because we didn’t know what to do, and this had its impact on our productivity. We had to pay more attention to health, sanitization, food, and exercise in addition to the already existing tasks. So, here we give some of the ways on how to maintain positivity and productivity during Covid-19.
Plan each day to maintain a specific course and stay on track. Successful planning should be realistic, so don’t put in too many tasks for one day; otherwise, you’ll feel frustrated and fail. Set small achievable goals that will gradually lead you to greater goals. Work might pile up at the beginning but with a good plan, you’ll manage successfully.
Your plan should include time for shopping, exercise, work, study, or family activities, and all should come together to ensure your health and productivity during the pandemic.
To stay positive and productive, you need to take care of your health, and this includes food, exercise, sleep, and sanitization.
During the pandemic, it’s difficult to go to the gym or sports classes. However, this doesn’t mean you have to stop exercising. You can go for a walk or go jogging. Also, you can have your own gym at home. It doesn’t take heavy sports equipment to do that. There are numerous workout classes online. You can follow a workout trainer on YouTube, for example, and do about thirty minutes of exercise a day. Maintaining physical health replenishes you with energy, reduces the stress you face during these tough situations, and enhances your positivity and consequently your productivity.
Food habits should also support you during the Covid-19 pandemic. Your attention should be more on healthy food. You should replenish your fridge with organic fruit and vegetables that would support your immune system.
Sleep plays its role in reducing stress and supporting health and immunity, so make sure you get enough. It also helps you stay more mentally balanced, focused, and productive.
Shift your focus
During the pandemic, especially in its early appearance, all TV channels have been displaying news related to the pandemic, its effect on health, and how it spreads along with daily statistics on how many people caught the virus, recovered, or passed away. This is too much negative input that you might expose yourself to. You shouldn’t sit all day listening to those negative pieces of news because they do nothing but make you more negative, which will definitely affect your mental health and productivity. At the same time, you cannot be totally disconnected from what’s happening around you. Therefore, try to choose one source of information and limit the time you give to follow that source. In this way, you can shift your focus and attention from negative news and focus on something more positive.
Take advantage of the time you spend at home during the pandemic
With lockdowns and social distancing policies, you find yourself locked at home with too much free time. Don’t waste this time wallowing about this difficult situation. Also, you should not surrender to a lethargic lifestyle wasting your time sleeping or scrolling down social media pages. Catch up on hobbies you previously had, discover new ones, read new books, learn to cook new dishes, plant your garden, take care of your pet, or even start a new course online. These activities open your horizons, and this free time gives you the opportunity to do the things you didn’t have time to do earlier. In other words, your productivity can be enhanced in a variety of ways.
In this pandemic situation, we are doing everything at home: we are working, studying, parenting, exercising, etc… This is why it’s easy for the boundaries between these things to be blurred. Before the pandemic, it was easy to draw the boundaries between those activities. We used to drive to work or to school, and once we are there, we are separated from life at home. Therefore, during the pandemic, we need to make some effort to set boundaries in order to stay focused and productive. Find a corner in the house, for example, where it’s less likely for anyone to disturb you and make it an office where you place your laptop and books to follow your work or study. It’s also necessary to switch off the social media notifications to stay focused on what you’re doing and so ensure your productivity.
Find support and solace in each other
All of us were terrified about the idea of social distancing to protect ourselves and others from the virus. However, social distancing doesn’t mean isolating yourself from society or deprive yourself of social life. This will lead to depression and you’ll lose your productivity. Therefore, connect with friends, family, and neighbors through chats and video calls. You can even meet and plan for activities while maintaining social distancing. Feeling that your loved ones are still around and sharing the new pandemic situation with them boosts a positive mindset and enhances productivity.
Make a list of accomplished things
At the end of each day, lie in bed and reflect on what you have accomplished during the day. Count them and be grateful for what you did. This reduces negativity and gives you confidence and motivation for the next day.
