About Rathinam School of Cinema
Rathinam Group and Dr. V. Senapathi Reynald (Founder, Director and Senior Professor of Rathinam School of Cinema; Dean of Visual Communications of Rathinam College of Arts and Science) welcome you to learn “Script and Direction of Digital Cinema” in an the vibrant ambience of Coimbatore. The first of its kind in India, Rathinam School of Cinema is open to those with a working knowledge of Tamil or Malayalam or English. The class timings shall be from 6pm to 8pm Tuesday through Thursday. This is intended to serve as a convenient time for aspirants. There shall be no restrictions on age or educational qualifications. We believe that for this kind of artistic study, the right hemisphere of the brain is more engaged, which has less association with formal degrees. That is the reason we find many successful directors from varied cultural and socio- economic backgrounds, traversing all cross-sections of society.
One can commence anytime throughout the year. Within 6 months ( 24 weeks) period total classes would be 72 days.. The course outline is as follows:
- Basic cinema language
- Short individual expression through cinema
- Short feature
- Visual Advertising
- Specialized short digital cinema of individual choice
A very simple aptitude test / interview would be conducted for all students at the time of joining, before the payment of fees. First time concessional course fee is
Rs. 45,000/- (non-refundable) Rs. 30000/- to be paid in 3 instalments of Rs. 10000 each.
The Level 2 shall start in October 2016 and run for 24 weeks.
Level 2 is meant for those who know the basic Cinema language, either through experience or through formal education. A basic entrance and talent test / interview would be conducted before the payment of fees. This course is styled more on individual coaching basis, following the Guru-Shishya model, depending on the student’s interest. The main emphasis would be on full length feature digital cinema. At the end of this course the student would acquire the confidence to direct full length digital cinema, competing with the other professionals in the market.
The first time concessional course fee for level 2 is

Founder, Director and Senior Professor of Rathinam School of Cinema; Dean of Visual Communications of Rathinam College of Arts and Science
Dr. V. Senapathi Reynald is a Founder, Director and Senior Professor of Rathinam School of Cinema; Dean of Visual Communications of Rathinam College of Arts and Science. He is a teacher of Script and Direction in Cinema and Television. Initially he learnt film making from the Institute of Film Technology, Adyar, Chennai and TV Direction from Film and TV Institute of India (FTII) Pune. He studied advanced level of Cinema and TV Direction at University of Texas at Austin, USA, availing Fulbright Scholarship. He was also trained in TELEDIFFUSION DE FRANCE and BBC & ITV, U.K. He received doctorate from Pondicherry Central University on “Content and Techniques in Cinema”. He learned the craft of Cinema Direction from the Institute of Film Technology, Chennai and then directly from Producer-Director, C. V. Sridhar. He has worked as Assistant Director in Cinemas starring MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jeetendra, Prem Chopra, Gemini Ganesan, Vishnu Vardhan, Bharathi, Chandrakala, Anjali Devi, S. V. Sahasaranamam, Pushpalatha, Thengai Srinivasan, Nagesh, V. S. Rahavan and many more. He has directed many TV Plays starring M. N. Rajam, Isari Velan, Pooranam Viswanathan, S. R. Sivakami, Mouli, Kathadi Ramamurthi, S. V. Sekhar, Y. G. Mahendra, Nazer et al. Dr. Senapathi has already taught Cinema and TV Direction at FTII Pune, University Sains Malaysia, Pondicherry Central University, Karunya University and Lovely Professional University. His key philosophy at “Rathinam School of Cinema” is the outlook to nurture and fine-tune each one in his/her own strengths. Teaching is Dr. Senapathi’s passion and he has received the “Best Teacher Award” at Pondicherry University.
