Costume design and fashion has a wide scope for choosing a career. Now the fashion industry has become so specialized that it encompasses a vast field of studies in design, concept management, design production management, quality control, planning, fabric design, printing, fashion accessory design, fashion merchandising, textile science, color mixing, marketing and so on. The primary areas of work in the fashion industry are market research, designing and manufacturing of garments and textiles.

It is a challenging field as it requires the coordination of various jobs, in small concerns it is usually a one man show but in big organizations the jobs are specialized and allotted to different people.

Vision and Mission

Our vision is to build our students to lead and develop Fashion and Textile Industry. To build a customized academic program that would nurture creativity for developing entrepreneur skill in all aspects of fashion and textile industry.

Our mission is to provide professional education for our students and provide an industry based environment in Designing, Technology, Marketing and Merchandising fields where students can understand and develop themselves for tomorrow.

Programme Expected Outcome (PEO)

The Department of Costume Design and Fashion provides intensive mentoring to our students both in and beyond the classroom in a wide variety of forums.The Department runs the Association “FASHIONISTA” which organizes various events including Workshops, Guest Lectures, Intercollegiatemeets and Fashion shows through the academic year.

Department Profile


The department of Costume Design and Fashion was established in the year 2004 which offers a three year course B.Sc., Costume Design and Fashion. It is one of the career oriented course that brings out the creativity and entrepreneur skills amongst students. The facilities in our department provide an inventive and innovative environment where the students can evolve oneself in this competent world.

Curriculum
Our curriculum consists of fashion sketching, garment construction, textile science, fashion merchandising, retail management, and visual merchandising which helps the students to start their career journey in every aspect of the textile and fashion world.

Future Study
  • Our students can take up their higher studies further in Masters in Fashion Management, M.Sc Costume Design and Fashion, Masters in Fashion Merchandising and Retail Management, Masters in Textile Management.

Infrastructure & facilities

Swing Lab
  • Our lab is equipped with various types of machines like 25 Pedal machines, 17 Power Machines, 1 over lock machine and 2 fashionmakers.
  • There is a male mannequin, female mannequin and two kid’s mannequins.
Drafting Lab
  • There are different types of dress forms like male, female and kids for our students to learn the techniques of draping.
  • There are 10 drafting tables for students for drafting patterns
Testing Lab
Our testing lab is equipped with
  • Wrap Reel
  • Beesley Balance
  • 2 Dye Baths
  • Crockmeter and
  • Twist Tester to test the fabric and yarn qualities
Activities

Association Activity.

Programs organized
We conduct a special event called Fashionista – Intercollegiate meet, a platform for our students to showcase their talents. Budding fashion designers from various colleges participate in this event. Students present their collection in the fashion show and the best collection is awarded with cash prices and trophies. This event would also attract brand sponsors like LEE, Naturals which would provide placement opportunity to the young designers.

Students Achievements
A dream becomes a goal when action is taken toward is an achievement. Our students have participated in various events in various colleges like fashion show, mehandi, rangoli, nail art, flower arrangement, bridal make-up, wealth out of waste and other cultural events and have won various awards and cash prices.

Our students have been placed in various industries mainly through placement activity organized by the department along with the placement cell.

We also provide job opportunities for our students like free lancing which help them to earn while studying and improving practical knowledge.

We have a syllabus which is more industry oriented and include the practical aspects which is very much needed in today’s textile industry.
